Man punched another for stepping on turf: DA

ARVERNE — An Arverne man was arraigned Sunday on charges that he allegedly threatened and assaulted a man in the rear of 82-02 Rockaway Blvd. at about 9:20 p.m. March 23, according to Queens District Attorney Richard Brown’s office.

Jerome Nelson, 20, was arrested March 23 and charged with third-degree assault and second-degree harassment after he allegedly told Henry Watkins in sum and substance that he could not walk where he was, then proceeded to punch him in the head with an unknown object, causing a laceration to Watkins’ head, according to the criminal complaint. Nelson was released on his own recognizance.

Watkins, who said he suffered substantial pain, annoyance and alarm as a result of the incident, was taken to an area hospital, where he received three stitches to his head, according to the criminal complaint.

Nelson is scheduled to appear in court again May 7.
