Man breaks windshield wiper of bus: Brown

EAST ELMHURST — A 45-year-old Manhattan man was arrested after he allegedly damaged the windshield wiper of a bus with his cane and then resisted arrest, the Queens district attorney said.

Dwayne Franklin of Manhattan was arraigned June 3 before Queens Criminal Court Judge Lenora Gerald on criminal mischief and resisting arrest charges and released on his own recognizance, Queens DA Richard Brown said. The defendant will return to court July 20.

On June 3, Franklin was alleged to have struck a Q45 bus in East Elmhurst on the window and windshield with his cane, causing $250, worth of damage, the DA said. He was allegedly asked by police to put down his cane, but refused to do so.

Officers maced the defendant in order to handcuff him, the DA said.
