Hotly contested campaigns with candidates vying for seats representing northeast Queens are gaining traction with the July 15 campaign finance filings.
At the federal level, U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-Forest Hills) raised about $230,689 in the most recent filing period and gained financial support from a number of people in Hollywood, including director Rob Reiner. His opponent, Bob Turner, did not file.
State Sen. Toby Stavisky (D-Whitestone) faces challenges from Democrats Isaac Sasson and John Messer and Republican Robert Schwartz.
Sen. Frank Padavan (R-Bellerose) is being challenged by former City Councilman Tony Avella.
Padavan so far has raised more than Avella.
