Fresh Meadows woman stole more than $22K: Brown

LONG ISLAND CITY — The state Frauds Bureau and the Queens district attorney’s office arrested Fresh Meadows resident Gohar Parunakyan, 40, on charges of grand larceny and forgery last Thursday, said the state Insurance Department.

An investigation by the department’s Frauds Bureau found Parunakyan allegedly cashed 17 checks equalling $22,300 between September 2006 and January 2009 that two other insurance companies had sent to Vital Insurance Brokerage in Long Island City, the department said.

Vital fired Parunakyan in 2009, the department said. She opened her own brokerage, H&M Insurance Brokerage Inc., on 69th Street in Woodside later that year, the department said.

Parunakyan faces up to four years in prison if convicted, the department said. A hearing has not yet been scheduled.
