ROCKAWAY — A body was found washed up on Jacob Riis Beach at Rockaway Beach Boulevard early in the morning Aug. 3, police said.
Police responded to a 911 call for a drowning victim at about 5:30 a.m. They arrived at the beach to find the man, identified as Roberto Bharat, 32, of Pine Street in Yonkers, N.Y., lying on the shore.
Emergency Medical Services came to the scene and transported the man to Peninsula General Hospital, where he was pronounced DOA, police said.
As of press time, the medical examiner had not yet determined the cause of death, police said.
