Teachers trump computers

While it is important for students in our schools to become familiar with computer technology, it is just as important to remember that computers must not and will not ever take the place of classroom teachers.

It is important to understand that computers do not drive and formulate instruction — teachers do. Students must also be able to use the skill of critical thinking when they are learning. Using a computer does not fulfill that important aspect of classroom learning and instruction. Students must be able to express their thoughts orally and through written expression.

While a computer can be used as a supplemental tool of instruction, it should not and must not ever be the main facet of classroom instruction. Teachers are the most important part of the learning process. Therefore, we must not permit computer technology to take over classroom instruction.

Basic skills of reading and writing need to be taught to our students by teachers, not computers.
