Drunk driver hit car at stoplight: Brown

BAYSIDE — A 40-year-old man from Long Island has been arrested after he is alleged to have driven drunk in Bayside, the Queens district attorney said.

Francisco Romero, of Hicksville, L.I., was arraigned before Queens Criminal Court Judge Lenora Gerald on several charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, Queens DA Richard Brown said.

The defendant, held on $7,500 bail, will return to court Sept. 8, the DA said.

On Aug. 22, Romero was allegedly seated behind the wheel of a 2007 Mazda Sedan, which had collided with a vehicle that was stopped at a red light at Northern and Francis Lewis boulevards in Bayside, Brown said.

The defendant is alleged to have had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and bloodshot eyes, the DA said.
