Man drove stolen N.J. bus in Jamaica: Brown

JAMAICA — A Manhattan man was arrested after he allegedly stole a bus and was pulled over in Jamaica, the Queens district attorney said.

Darius McCollum, 45, of Manhattan, was charged with criminal possession of stolen property and unauthorized use of a vehicle, Queens DA Richard Brown said. If convicted, he could face up to 15 years in prison, the DA said.

“The defendant was literally ‘busted’ outside my office in the shadows of the Queens Criminal Court Building,” Brown said. “Although there were no passengers aboard the bus, the defendant’s alleged actions were serious and needlessly put the lives of both pedestrians and motorists in harm’s way.”

McCollum is alleged to have driven a Trailways bus earlier in the day from a New Jersey bus depot, the DA said. He was pulled over at the intersection of Hoover Avenue and Van Wyck Expressway in Jamaica, Brown said.

The defendant allegedly told police he had stolen the bus, he said.
