Would-be robber with shotgun foiled: Police

BELLEROSE — A New Hyde Park man was arrested last week for trying to rob a man with a loaded shotgun, allegedly police said.

Peter Sarlanis, 22, of Tuxedo Avenue, was charged with menacing, criminal possession of a weapon and harassment Sept. 8, Queens DA Richard Brown said.

A day before he was arraigned, police responded to a house near 242nd Street and 83rd Avenue, where they received calls of a man walking around with a gun, the criminal complaint said. The victim told police that Sarlanis allegedly pointed a gun in his face, according to the complaint.

Police recovered the weapon in a trash bin and found that it was loaded, the complaint said.

After he was arrested, Sarlanis allegedly told investigators he wanted to rob the victim, removed the gun from the trunk of his car and pointed it at the victim’s face, according to the complaint.

After the victim wrestled the gun out of his hands, he ran away, the complaint said.
