Young Dems call for probe of Turner’s fund-raising

The president of the Queens County Young Democrats called on the Federal Election Commission to investigate campaign finance filings by Bob Turner, the Republican challenging U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-Forest Hills).

Costa Constantinides, who leads the Queens County Young Democrats, wrote in a Sept. 28 letter to FEC Chairman Matthew Peterson that Turner violated federal regulations by reporting “spending levels far below clear and apparent expenditures.”

A campaign spokesman for Turner refuted the charges.

Democrats are accusing the Republican candidate of not reporting expenses or funds raised at his campaign office grand opening or a fund-raiser at a local restaurant in August.

Matthew Turner, Bob Turner’s spokesman, said all his campaign expenditures have been filed with the FEC. He planned to give documentation of the filings to TimesLedger Newspapers, but was unable to do so before deadline.
