McGoldrick Library reopen after $21M renovation

Flushing residents have regained one of their sources for reading materials.

The McGoldrick Library held a grand reopening ceremony last Thursday following an extensive $1.2 million renovation of the entire facility.

The newly upgraded space at 155-06 Roosevelt Ave. now includes a teen area and improved adult and children areas with new furniture.

Beyond the new offerings, extensive structural work was completed, including installing new roofing, ceilings, flooring, windows, furniture and shelving and the meeting rooms were modernized to be more user-friendly.

Self-check-in and -check-out machines were also installed. The machines will shorten wait times, free up library staff for other work and allow people to return items 24 hours per day.

State Sen. Frank Padavan (R-Bellerose), state Assemblywoman Grace Meng (D-Flushing) and the entire Queens delegation of the City Council, led by Councilman Peter Koo (R-Flushing), were instrumental in securing the funds for the renovations.

Padavan, Meng and Koo attended the opening.
