Bar owner hit with bottle after asking for tab: Cops

ST. ALBANS — A Jamaica man has been charged with assaulting the owner of a St. Albans bar over a drink tab, police said.

Khadeeja Best racked up a $13 bar tab at Farmer Sports & Social Club at 115-05 Farmers Blvd. Oct. 1 and refused to pay his bill before leaving the establishment, police said.

When Carlton Forbes, the bar’s owner, followed him out of the bar to request that he pay between 3:50 a.m. and 4:30 a.m., Best allegedly struck him in the head with a bottle, causing swelling and substantial pain, police said.

Best was arraigned Oct. 1 on charges of third-degree assault, theft of services, criminal possession of a weapon and harassment in connection with the alleged incident, authorities said.

He was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in court again Nov. 15.
