Thief caught red-handed, arrested for cocaine: DA

JAMAICA — A pickpocket was caught in the act by one of her victims, then arrested and charged with grand larceny, attempted petit larceny and drug possession, a spokeswoman for Queens District Attorney Richard Brown told the New York Post.

Velma Gregg, 48, allegedly reached into a shopper’s pocket, stole $25 and walked away at about 2:30 p.m. Oct. 19 at the C-Town supermarket on Hillside Avenue near 171st Street, the Post reported.

Shortly thereafter Gregg allegedly bumped into another woman and reached into her pocket, then tried to steal her purse from her shopping cart, according to court papers obtained by the Post.

The second victim grabbed hold of her purse and a police officer intervened while they were struggling over the bag, then proceeded to arrest Gregg, the Post reported.

The officer allegedly found a bag of cocaine in Gregg’s pocket, according to the Post.
