The woman accused of killing a 2-year-old boy Tuesday night by throwing him off a seven-floor Flushing balcony is currently undergoing psychiatric evaluation and will likely face murder charges, a source familiar with the investigation said.

The suspect, Xiao Cai, 53, had long been depressed and was institutionalized previously for psychiatric issues, the source said.

Cai, who was staying with but was not related to the child or other owners of the condominium at 35-06 Leavitt St. from which the child was thrown, allegedly got into an argument with her daughter before suddenly snapping and killing the child, according to the source. The New York Post reported the child’s name as Jerry Xhou.

Cai’s daughter and Jerry’s mother, Yun Xu, were both employed as cashiers at an area grocery store, the source said.

Funeral arrangements are underway for Xhou, the source said.
