The weather may be strictly autumnal, but there were summer scenes warming a recent art show at the Community Church of Douglaston.
An exhibition of oils and watercolors by Floral Park artist Nancy Fabrizio featured titles including “Long Island sunflowers,” “Autumn in Maine” and “New England,” but the view from around the room at 30-50 Douglaston Pkwy. last week was of the seashore on dreamy summer days.
Fabrizio’s oils “By the Sea” and “Matching Hats” and watercolors “The Fisherman” or “Wet Feet” conjure memories of the smiling sun and salty breeze on relaxing days at the shore.
Her life as an artist is a dream, she insists. After a career of assisting federal crime victims, “I studied with and have been inspired by artists Kris Delosantos, Dorothy Foley, Melissa Wolf and Beth Ellis,” she said.
This new life included travel that broadened her artistic view, reflected in scenes of Ireland and Europe. But the lure of her declared favorite, “The Seacoast,” is apparent and she immortalizes its simple, placid moments.
Fabrizio expressed hope that the viewer can “enter into a peaceful retreat and be briefly transported to the places that have inspired me.”
A member of numerous artists’ groups, including the Art Guild of Port Washington, art leagues for Nassau County and Floral Park, Fabrizio has lately been spending time at the National Art League in Douglaston.
“I really love it there,” she said of the storefront studio and upstairs gallery at 44-21 Douglaston Pkwy., where there are regular art classes and exhibitions.
Nearly three dozen painting were on view and were well-received. Two were sold even before the exhibition officially opened.
“I’m happy to say I sold six paintings,” an appreciative Fabrizio said afterward. “I think my art showing turned out to be quite successful.
Fabrizio’s works have graced juried exhibitions at the Bayside Historical Society, the State Bank of Long Island, the Lincoln Center Cork Gallery and the Alliance of Queens Artists. Her artwork is in private collections in California, Florida, Massachusetts, New Jersey and Long Island.
