Argument over remote leads to stabbing: DA

ARVERNE — An Arverne woman was charged with stabbing her boyfriend in the thigh after they had an argument over the TV remote, a spokeswoman for Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said.

Barbara Smith, 55, of 66-10 Thursby Ave. in Arverne, allegedly got into an argument with her boyfriend inside her home Jan. 18 around 5:30 p.m. when she stabbed him in the thigh, causing a laceration, according to the criminal complaint.

Her boyfriend was taken to a local hospital, where he received staples to close the wound, the complaint said.

The spokeswoman said Smith and her boyfriend had been arguing over the remote control.

Smith was arraigned Jan. 19 on charges of assault and criminal possession of a weapon before Queens Criminal Court Judge Toko Serita, who released Smith on her own recognizance, the spokeswoman said.

Smith’s next court date was scheduled for Feb. 2.
