JACKSON HEIGHTS — A 31-year-old sex offender from Jackson Heights has been charged Monday with failing to register his electronic identifiers, the Queens district attorney’s office said. Luis Ortiz is the first man to be charged under the 2008 Electronic Security and Targeting of Online Predators Act, the DA said.
Ortiz allegedly reported on numerous registration forms submitted to the Division of Criminal Justice Services that he did not have any Internet accounts, e-mail addresses or screen names, but had allegedly owned and operated a Facebook account under the username “Kal-El,” one of the identities of the comic book hero Superman, and accessed the account through the e-mail address nyspops@gmail.com, the DA said.
Ortiz allegedly also kept a MySpace account under the user name “Go0dmoney,” which he allegedly accessed with the e-mail address supersk1dd@aol.com, the DA said.
Ortiz has been charged with falsifying business records, offering a false instrument for filing and violating corrections law, the DA said. He faces up to four years in prison, the DA said.
Ortiz pleaded guilty to promoting a sexual performance by a child in December 2008, for which he was sentenced to 10 years of probation, the DA said. He was classified as a sex offender in July 2009, the DA said.
