Queens Reformed Church offers family fun night event

The Queens Reformed Church, at 94-79 Springfield Blvd. in Queens Village, is providing an opportunity for families to spend recreational time together at its Family Fun Night.

Family Fun Night is when children and adults can play games and enjoy dinner with refreshments. The coordinator of this recurring event is the church pastor, Anna Melissa Jackson.

“It’s a pretty simple program, but there’s a need for that kind of coming together,” she said.

This event started at the beginning of this school year in September. It takes place on the third Friday of every month from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and admission is free.

The Queens Reformed Church also has an after-school program called Daybreak for children ranging from those who attend kindergarten up to eighth-grade. Family Fun Night draws a combination of church members, after-school children and their family and friends.

Katelynne, 6, who attends Daybreak, goes to Family Fun Night every month with her 2-year-old brother and her mother.

“I love Family Fun Night because I love playing there,” she said.

Jahmani, 13, who also attends Daybreak, likes the social aspect of Family Fun Night.

“I like to go to Family Fun Night because there’s a lot of people to talk to,” he said.

The children said they play games like tag, Apples to Apples, Monopoly, Battleship and Simon Says.

Jeremiah, 8, said, “I’m so glad we don’t have to pay to go.”

Occasionally, employees of Daybreak will even attend and help out with Family Fun Night. This is an effective way to end the week with a leisure and community bonding.
