Flushing Library to host health-care reform talk

Queens Forum, LaGuardia Community College and CAUSE-NY/Jewish Community Relations Council of NY are hosting a conference on how health-care reform is affecting Queens.

The event, planned for this Friday at the Flushing Library, at 41-17 Main St. from 9 a.m. to 1:15 p.m., is aimed at explaining the federal Affordable Health Care Act for small business owners, immigrants and those with disabilities and involved in managed care and unions.

Speakers will include U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-Forest Hills), former Borough President Claire Shulman and Jamie Torres of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Breakfast will be served.

Friday’s event will kick off a five-part series that will begin in September. The five parts of the series will be Queens’ primary health-care system, youth, seniors, chronic illness and mental illness/addiction.

Those interested should register in advance at communityuplink.net/gfhealth.html.
