Robber of Astoria bank sought by police

ASTORIA — Police were on the lookout for a man they said tried to steal money from one bank and robbed another over the last two weeks.

The fugitive first entered a Chase branch, at 60-67 Myrtle Ave., around 2 p.m. April 21 and passed a note to a teller that demanded cash, the police said. He did not receive any money and fled on foot, according to the authorities.

Four days later, the suspect entered a Bank of America branch, at 59-01 Myrtle Ave., around 11 a.m., passed a note to a teller that demanded cash and fled with the money, police said.

He is described as either black or Latino in his 20s, 5 feet 7 inches tall and approximately 160 pounds, the authorities said. He was seen wearing a black knitted hat, black glasses, black jacket and jeans, according to police.
