Qns man caused accident in Manhattan: Police

MANHATTAN — A Sunnyside motorist was being investigated by the police in connection with a hit-and-run accident that took place last month, the NYPD said.

Ibrahim Yazici was questioned by police Friday but not charged with any criminal counts as of press time Tuesday for the incident that took place May 17 on Canal Street near the Manhattan Bridge and left a traffic agent hospitalized, the police said.

The agent was struck by a BMW and sustained bruises and abrasions to the knee and left shoulder, according to investigators. The agent was taken to Bellevue Hospital, treated and released, the NYPD said.

Police cameras videotaped the car speeding on the bridge before the incident and witnesses gave investigators the license plate of the BMW, the authorities said.

The car is registered to Yazici and was spotted by a police car at East 79th Street between 1st and 2nd avenues Friday night, police said.

The suspect told police he has retained a lawyer, did not cooperate with the investigators and was released pending further investigation, the NYPD said.

Investigators have impounded the BMW and allegedly found damage that was consistent with that of the details of the hit and run, according to the police.
