Woman at JFK had no license for gun: Brown

JFK AIRPORT — A Montana woman was charged with criminal possession of a weapon after a Continental Airlines ticket agent found out she did not have a New York license for a handgun she declared during a routine pre-flight baggage check-in, a spokeswoman for Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said.

The agent said 67-year-old Maria Armenta, of 765 Stonegate Drive in Bozeman, Mont., could not produce a valid New York state license for her unloaded Taurus .38-caliber revolver, the criminal complaint said.

Armenta told the agent that she flies “all over and I’ve never had a problem” with the gun, according to the complaint.

She was arraigned last Thursday before Queens Criminal Court Judge Elisa Koenderman, who released Armenta on her own recognizance, the spokeswoman said.

Armenta’s next court date is scheduled for Aug. 4, the spokeswoman said.
