People using fireworks risk being arrested: 102nd Pct.

Fireworks are not just illegal, they can also get you hurt or arrested, the 102nd Precinct warned.

The precinct is encouraging residents who witness the delivery, sale or storage of fireworks to call 911 or 311 so they can claim an award up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of people possessing or distributing fireworks.

Community Affairs Officer Joseph Martins said the precinct, which covers Woodhaven, Kew Gardens, Richmond Hill and Ozone Park, wrote up 77 summonses and made three fireworks-related arrests during the July 4 weekend last year.

Residents were asked to call 911 if they see a fireworks-related crime in progress or 311 if they have information on somebody storing, selling or delivering fireworks.

The precinct warned that if residents have fireworks, they can be arrested, have their cars confiscated or have their businesses closed.
