Motorcycle accident kills Jamaica man

REGO PARK — A Jamaica motorcyclist was allegedly killed by a hit-and-run drunk driver in Rego Park Jan. 10.

Dwan Gonzalez, 44, was riding his 2002 Harley-Davidson motorcycle eastbound on the Horace Harding Expressway near Junction Boulevard when he was allegedly struck by a white Mercedes-Benz driven by Shamel Campbell, 26, of Freeport, L.I., who then fled the scene at about 1 a.m, according to police.

Responding officers found Gonzalez unconscious and medics later pronounced him dead on arrival, police said.

After putting out a description of Campbell’s car over the radio, he was apprehended in the 105th Precinct and charged with leaving the scene of an accident, driving while intoxicated and as an aggravated unlicensed operator.

Campbell told police “I don’t know what happened, I was drunk,” according to the New York Post, and had a blood-alcohold level of .18, more than twice the legal limit.
