Teen Action: Service learning After-School Program — Accepting application for ages 13-19. The program is youth-driven, offering academic, civic, leadership and life skills and community service opportunities to young people in order for them to succeed in an increasingly competitive world.

Sankofa School — The International People’s Democratic Uhuru Movement presents. Geared towards aiming the youth with knowledge and strength of self, in addition to overall tools for success. The program will teach children and young adults about cooperative economics, self-determination collective work and responsibility, amongst other Nguzo Saba principles. Enrollment has begun.

Assistance with Immigration Matters — There will be free legal assistance by an attorney to prepare and file papers and to accompany immigrants at court appearances and administrative hearings. Other services include counseling and assistance with citizenship/naturalization, green cards/visa petitions, asylum assistance, employment authorization, legal assistance and immigrant juvenile status. The focus of the program is to enable immigrants to apply for permanent residency. Presented by the Federation of African, Caribbean and American Organization.

Help! I Can’t Get to Church on Sunday — In response to the needs of both the church and the community, the Our Saviour Lutheran Church is adding a forth weekly worship opportunity to its schedule. The extra service will be on Wednesdays.

A Gardening Series for Older Adults — The Queens Botanical Garden continues to offer adults ages 60 and over the opportunity to learn about gardening, share their plant knowledge and connect with nature. Cancer Support Group — Open to all cancer survivors, including family members and is ideal for people who need someone to talk to about the illness. Discussions include new medicines and treatments, advice on how to cope, and also provides emotional support. Meets monthly.

Prenatal Adult Literacy Support Program — Jamaica Hospital is currently seeking volunteers for their new innovative Heath Literacy and Education Program. Each volunteer will be given 20 hours of training to prepare them to work with pregnant patients of the JHMC Women’s Health Center. If you are over the age of 18, fluent in English and Spanish, Hindi, or French/Creole and would like to participate, please contact Arlene Martin, director of volunteer services at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center.
