L.I. man cuts cop’s eye in Jamaica fight: DA

JAMAICA — Police arrested a 22-year-old man last week for hurting an officer, the Queens district attorney’s office said.

Gavin Minott, 22, of Valley Stream, L.I., was arraigned July 18 on assault, criminal possession of marijuana, obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest charges, the DA’s office said.

The day before, around midnight, a uniformed officer broke up a fight between Minott and an unidentified person inside a clothing store at 167th Street and Jamaica Avenue, but Minott picked up a glass bottle and ran away, the criminal complaint said.

When the officer gave chase, Minott allegedly turned around and collided with him head-on and cut the officer’s eye, according to the complaint.

During the struggle, a bag with marijuana fell out of Minott’s pocket, the criminal complaint said.

The office needed 10 stitches for his eye wound, the complaint said.
