Rhode Islander tried to pimp boro woman: DA

WOODSIDE — A 26-year-old Rhode Island man was arrested in Woodside after allegedly forcing a 20-year-old woman to work for him as a prostitute in the city, the Queens district attorney’s office said.

Paul Monteiro, 26, of Providence, R.I., was arraigned Monday night in Queens Criminal Court on charges of sex trafficking, promoting prostitution, unlawful imprisonment and unlawful possession of marijuana, the DA said. He faces up to 25 years if convicted, the DA said.

Monteiro allegedly took the woman to the city and, when she asked to go home, said he would not bring her back to Providence unless she made money for him by prostituting herself, the DA said.

When arrested near 61st Street and Roosevelt Avenue, 108th Precinct officers found marijuana in the backseat of Monteiro’s car, his criminal complaint said.
