Bicyclist on cell phone stealing spree: Police

WESTERN QUEENS — Police were on the lookout for a bicycle-riding man suspected of stealing cell phones from 19 people in Jackson Heights, Astoria, Corona and Rego Park between July 15 and Sept. 19.

The man is described as a 20- to 30-year-old black or Hispanic man standing between 5 feet 6 inches and 5 feet 8 inches in height, police said.

The NYPD said the suspect wears a dark hooded sweatshirt and usually approaches people in the afternoon to early evening hours and grabs the cell phones from their hands.

Those with information are asked to contact NYPD’s Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-577-TIPS, visiting nypdcrimestoppers.com or texting 274637 (CRIMES) then entering TIP577, police said.
