Suspect in Gibbons hit-and-run death caught in Connecticut

MASPETH — Police have released new information on the man they are looking for in connection with the car accident that took the life of the owner of a popular Queens bar.

Peter Rodriquez, 36, is wanted by the authorities for allegedly killing George Gibbons and injuring two others during the early morning hours of Oct. 15, police said.

Rodriquez was allegedly traveling the wrong way on the Long Island Expressway near 58th Road that morning in his 2002 Chrysler when he hit a livery cab that Gibbons was riding in head-on, according to investigators.

The driver and Gibbons, who was the owner of Gibbons’ Home in Maspeth, were transported to Elmhurst Hospital, but only the driver survived, police said.

Rodriquez allegedly fled the scene while a 44-year-old passenger in his car was taken to Elmhurst and listed in stable condition, according to investigators.
