Veterans’ Day Ceremonies

The family of Lance Corp. Leopold Damas asked that Damas be remembered on Veteran's Day. Damas was killed during a combat operation in the Helmand province of Afghanistan in 2009, according to the Marines. Damas, a Jamaica native, was on his first tour of duty in Afghanistan and served as a rifleman Company G, 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, Regimental Combat Team 3, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade, according to the Marines. The Marine, who joined the corps in January 2006, had previously served two tours in Iraq, from March 2007 to September 2007 and July 2008 to February 2009, the Marines said.
