Emerald Awards to be dedicated to late civic leader Patricia Dolan

The Queens Coalition for Parks and Green Spaces has announced it will dedicate the eighth annual 2011 Emerald Awards to the late Patricia Dolan in recognition of her work to make the borough a better place to live, work and play.

Dolan, a longtime Queens activist who was president of the Queens Civic Congress, head of the Flushing Meadows Corona Park Conservancy and involved in numerous other civic activities, died at the age of 72 two weeks ago after she was struck by a car.

The 2011 Emerald Award Honorees are Rose Funderburk of the 105th Precinct Community Council, JoAnn Lewandowski of the Our Lady of Mercy School garden club, Benny Wong of the West Cunningham Park Civic Association, certified tree pruner Christie Van Kehrberg of the Green Shores NYC program, Veronica Belan of the Friends of Springfield Park and Peter and Edie Bukewicz of Glen Oaks Village.

The awards will be presented Friday, Dec. 2, at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 246-55 87th Ave. in Bellerose at 7:15 p.m.
