A bomb scare at Creedmoor Psychiatric Center prompted a visit from police, the FDNY and the NYPD’s bomb squad Thursday morning.
The explosive in question turned out to be nothing more than an unattended box, but was only cleared after the bomb squad investigated, according to the NYPD.
Police evacuated the building, at 79-25 Winchester Blvd. in Queens Village, shortly after 9 a.m., police said. About an hour and a half later, the patients and employees of the center and other businesses in the complex were allowed back inside the gates.
An initial report by the Breaking News Network described a man walking into one of the buildings with a land mine. After the incident, the a spokesman for the FDNY said a man had walked into one of the buildings claiming he had a bomb strapped to his body.
But police disputed these claims and said it was nothing more than a suspicious package.
