BROOKVILLE — Firefighters responding to a 911 call of a small fire on 230th Place the morning of June 13 found a man in his 50s dead in an adjacent building, the NYPD said.

The fire was actually burning food on a stove and emergency medical service workers pronounced the man dead at the scene, the FDNY said. Neighbors identified the man as David Brown, a diabetic who had his leg removed about two years ago.

An NYPD spokeswoman said firefighters found Brown at the bottom of the building’s stairs and he had apparently been there for a few days.
