A Douglaston eighth-grader clocked in two of his school’s highest student honors, his school announced last week.

Lorenzo Manuali, 13, who just completed his seventh-grade year last month, received the Headmaster’s Award for the third consecutive year and the Scholarship Medal for the second consecutive year, marking a feat the Buckley Country Day School in Roslyn, L.I., said it was proud of.

“Buckley is a second home to me,” Lorenzo said. “When someone has teachers who care and want you to achieve, it is not difficult to succeed.”

A spokeswoman at Buckley said the awards were two of the highest honors a student could receive. Lorenzo etched his name into the school’s top awards through the last three years.

“Lorenzo is a remarkable young man,” said the headmaster, Dr. Jean-Marc Juhel. “He combines the best of academic commitment with character and integrity. We are very proud of all his accomplishments.”

Lorenzo has lived in Douglaston throughout his entire life and has extended family members throughout the community. His parents, Tanya and Corrado Manuali, moved to the neighborhood in 1998, and his grandmother, famous chef Lidia Bastianich, has lived there since 1982.

Throughout his time at the school, Lorenzo said he has never taken his eye off the goal of succeeding academically. His favorite subjects, he said, are science and history.

“I am very passionate about my studies,” he said.
