A 28-year-old NYPD officer died Thursday night in Hollis Hills after turning his gun on himself, police said.

A call came over the police scanner at about 10:40 p.m. of an officer shot at 85-22 211th St., and NYPD and emergency service personnel responded.

The officer, whose name was being withheld pending family notification, worked in the 111th Precinct, which covers the neighborhoods of Bayside, Douglaston, Little Neck, Auburndale, Fresh Meadows and Hollis Hills.

After shooting himself once in the head, he was taken to Long Island Jewish Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 11:09 p.m., according to the NYPD.

The officer had responded to the scene of a possible car break in with his partner, according to a report in the New York Post.

He paused the investigation to take a call on his cellphone from his girlfriend, and after a heated argument took his own life, according to the Post.
