Crowley, cancer center to offer mammograms

City Councilwoman Elizabeth Crowley (D-Middle Village) is teaming up with the American-Italian Cancer Foundation to provide no-cost digital mammograms and clinical breast exams to women over 40 Dec. 5 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at a mobile care unit at PS 88, at 60-85 Catalpa Ave.

The screenings are open to women 40 and up who live in the city and have not had a mammogram in the past 12 months. Appointments are necessary, so call 877-628-9090 or Crowley’s office at 718-366-3900 to schedule an appointment.

“Early detection of breast cancer saves lives,” Crowley said. “No one should be denied preventative screenings because they lack health insurance, and I am proud to work with the American-Italian Cancer Foundation to bring this no-cost option to women in my district.”

Screenings are performed by Multi-Diagnostic Services. Results will be sent to you or your doctor within 10 business days.

For women without health insurance, the screenings are paid for by the Screening Partnerships of the New York State Cancer Services Program and the American-Italian Cancer Foundation.

For women with health insurance, the insurance company will be billed for the services, but women will not be charged a co-pay or receive a bill.
