FRESH MEADOWS — A man shown in an online video abusing wildlife in Peck Park was arrested last week and charged with animal cruelty, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

The ASPCA’s Legal Advocacy and Humane Law Enforcement departments began a criminal investigation in September when the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals received complaints about the video, which shows Jordan Heuer and his accomplices repeatedly hitting an opossum, according to the ASPCA.

Heuer, 18, was arrested by ASPCA agents Dec. 3 and charged with one count of misdemeanor animal cruelty, the ASPCA said.

If convicted, he faces up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine, according to the ASPCA.
