Freshman Korzevinski gets rookie honors

Queens College freshman Kristen Korzevinski was named East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week Dec. 17 for women’s basketball. The guard earned her first such award as a Knight.

It was a busy and stellar seven-day period for the New Hyde Park native as Korzevinski and the Knights opened play Dec. 12 in a matchup against Caldwell in New Jersey. In that game, the freshman gave QC some instant offense, as she came off the bench to score 14 points on 5-of-2 shooting. She was one of three Knights to reach double figures and logged 38 minutes.

Against Saint Michael’s Saturday, she earned the start and played all four minutes of the contest, while leading the team with 16 points. Korzevinski buried 6-of-11 shots, including 4-of-9 from behind the three-point line. Additionally, she collected a game-high three steals. Korzevinski joins teammate MacKenzie Rowland, of Cohoes, in capturing the ECC Rookie of the Week Award this season.

Korzevinski and the Knights return to Fitzgerald Gym for a home game with Bowie State Dec. 29. The tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
