Flushing man faces 24 years for killing girlfriend

FLUSHING — A Flushing man was sentenced to 24 years in prison for stabbing his former girlfriend to death, the Queens district attorney said.

Segundo Penafiel, 28, of 111-05 Roosevelt Ave., pleaded guilty earlier this month to manslaughter in connection with the 2008 incident, the DA said.

Early in the morning of Aug. 23, Penafiel stabbed 22-year-old Ebony Garcia in her College Point apartment, the DA said.

He stabbed her several times in the head, neck and arms before fleeing the state, the DA said.

Penafiel was arrested in Texas about a week later as he attempted to leave the country, the DA said.
