Cabbie dies on GCP in hit-and-run: Police

FRESH MEADOWS — A 19-year-old driver was being held on $100,000 bail after a hit-and-run motor vehicle accident resulted in the death of a Bronx cabbie on the Grand Central Parkway Sunday, according to the Queens district attorney.

Roberto Depena was arrested a short time after the 3 a.m. crash in Fresh Meadows, according to police. He was charged with manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter, leaving the scene of an accident, criminally negligent homicide, DWI, speeding and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol as a minor, police said.

He is scheduled to appear in court April 1, said the district attorney.

Police said the yellow cab was headed west on the parkway near the 180th Street exit when it was struck by Depena’s Honda sedan, sending the victim’s car careening into the center median. The driver, identified as 38-year-old Ansumana Dukuly, died at the scene, police said.
