TimesLedger Newspapers

The Taft Institute for Government at Queens College is teaming up with The Museum of the Moving Image to present a seminar for teachers on the topics of immigration and the city’s upcoming elections.

The four-day seminar will introduce participating K-12 teachers to the museum’s Living Room Candidate website, which archives television advertisements from every presidential campaign since 1952 and will delve into innovations in pedagogical methods and recent findings from political science research.

Other topics will include gender and electoral politics, past and present immigration and a simulation game on the upcoming mayoral and City Council elections.

The seminar will be held Aug. 19-22 at the museum’s facilities in Astoria. Morning coffee and lunch will be served.

Teachers who choose to take the seminar for three graduate credits in either education or political science at Queens College will receive a $1,000 scholarship and attend six additional sessions at Queens on Wednesday afternoons during the fall semester.

Those who opt simply to take the four-day seminar for professional development will receive a $500 stipend.

Interested teaches may contact Teresa Gonzalez at teresa.gonzalez@qc.cuny.edu for application forms and other information. There is a space limit of about 25 seats.
