ARVERNE — A Queens man was arrested Tuesday and charged with the stabbing death of his 60-year-old mother, according to the Queens district attorney.
Sylvia Scott, who was named the NYPD Transit Bureau’s civilian Employee of the Year last year, was killed Monday when her 35-year-old son Lonnie Scott allegedly choked her and stabbed her in the stomach before wrapping her body in plastic bags, blankets and carpeting, Queens DA Richard Brown said. Lonnie Scott then went to a nearby liquor store and bought a bottle of Hennessy cognac, according to the DA.
“This is a terribly sad and tragic case of a devoted mother allegedly dying at the hands of her own son, who, if convicted, could spend the rest of his life behind bars,” Brown said in a statement.
Lonnie Scott allegedly attacked his mother just hours after he was released from a mental health facility, according a report in the New York Post.
Police arrived at the family’s apartment at 12:43 p.m., and EMS later pronounced Sylvia Scott dead, according to the NYPD.
Her son is charged with murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon, police said.
