ELMHURST — The New York Police Department was looking for help locating a suspect wanted in the sexual assault of a child within the 110th Precinct, police said.

According to police, a 10-year-old girl was walking home from the store Jan. 5 around 8:13 p.m. when a white man in his 30s followed her into her apartment building. Once inside, police said the suspect engaged the girl in a conversation and touched her groin over her clothing before exposing himself to her.

When the victim fled into her apartment, the suspect ran away in an unknown direction, the NYPD said.

There were no injuries reported.

Police described the suspect as a while man nearly 5-foot-10 to 6 feet, between 170 and 190 pounds, bearded and wearing a black sweat suit, black knit cap and glasses. He was also pushing a black mountain bike, the NYPD said.
