Court upholds sentence in Howard Beach shooting death: DA

By Joe Anuta

HOWARD BEACH — An appellate court Wednesday upheld the sentence of a Howard Beach woman acquitted of murder but convicted on gun possession charges in the 2011 shooting death of her husband, the Queens district attorney said.

A majority of the Appellate Division, Second Department found that Barbara Sheehan’s sentence of five years behind bars and two and a half years post-release supervision was appropriate, according to DA Richard Brown.

Sheehan testified she shot her husband, retired NYPD cop Raymond Sheehan, 11 times in self-defense with a 9mm Glock handgun.

The case has been remitted to the court to arrange Sheehan’s surrender and the start of her sentence, the DA said.
