Man threatens to jump off Bayside roof after breaking into home: NYPD
By Phil Corso

An unidentified man was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon after he allegedly broke into a Bayside home, made his way up to the roof and threatened to jump, the Police Department said.

Officers responded to initial calls of a break-in on Francis Lewis Boulevard near 35th Avenue, where they found the man, who has yet to be identified, on the roof of the two-story home. He was eventually taken into custody. Officers were on the roof with the man for about an hour before he was seen being wheeled into an ambulance truck on a stretcher.

There were no injuries, police said. The suspect was not immediately identified.

Chelsea Jun, who lives inside the home, said she was sitting in her living room alone when a tall man barged in with a wound on one of his hands and said he needed a place to hide.

“He said someone was running after him,” Jun said. “He wanted to know if there was a way to the attic.”

He then started using her bedsheets to tie himself a rope to escape out the home’s second-floor window before police had arrived.

Police were still investigating the scene and its neighboring homes to check if the man had stolen or damaged any other property.
