OZONE PARK — A 23-year-old man was sentenced to 25 years in prison for sexually attacking a woman in July 2011, the district attorney said.
The man, Kevin Pazmini, was convicted last month of first-degree attempted rape, first-degree criminal sexual act, second-degree attempted robbery and second-degree assault, District Attorney Richard Brown said.
The 25-year sentence was imposed Wednesday, June 12.
“The defendant was found guilty of sexually assaulting the victim who was on her way to work, leaving her emotionally and physically battered,” Brown said. “He is a violent predator and the sentence imposed today is justified and necessary to protect the law-abiding members of our society from such a vicious individual.”
According to trial testimony, Pazmini grabbed his 35-year-old female victim from behind in the early morning hours of July 26, 2011, as she was walking to a bus stop on Jamaica Avenue on her way to work.
He then dragged her into an alley on 89th Street, where he struck her on the face and sexually assaulted her before emptying her purse, Brown said. The victim escaped half-dressed to a nearby bodega, where a customer called the police, Brown said.
Pazimini’s DNA was found on a letter he wrote to a friend describing what he had done, the district attorney said.
