By Chris Engelhardt

Uncle George’s Greek Tavern, a beloved Astoria restaurant that specialized in rustic Mediterranean cooking, has closed its doors, according to a spokeswoman for the city Marshal’s Office.

The longtime establishment, known for its tzatziki, barbecued pork and chicken and roasted leg of lamb, was seized by city marshals June 19, according to the city Marshal’s Office.

It was at 33-19 Broadway, but the spokeswoman did not say why the eatery was closed.

The phone number for the popular restaurant was disconnected.

Uncle George’s Greek Tavern reportedly opened in the late 1970s.
