Queens to host 36th state edition of arm wrestling championships

Queens will play host to a professional sporting event to go along with tennis and baseball when the New York Arm Wrestling Association holds its 36th annual Empire State Golden Arm Tournament Sunday.

Tough guys and gals from as far away as Brazil and Russia are expected to compete for the coveted title of Empire State Golden Arms Champion, the official arm wrestling tournament of New York state. The event is being held at Cheap Shots Sports Bar, at 149-05 Union Tnpk. in Kew Gardens Hills, starting at 1 p.m.

“The Empire State Golden Arms Tournament of Champions is New York City’s oldest and most prestigious, sought-after title,” said Glen Camp, founder and president of the NYAWA.

More than 100 pro and amateur men and women in 14 different weight classes are expected to compete for the title. Defending champions of other local arm wrestling events such as NYC’s Big Apple Grapple International King and Queen of Arms will also be competing. There will be cash prizes awarded to the lefthand and righthand MVPs and weight class titles awarded in every class.

“This event as the culmination of the 2013 NYAWA season is going to be very exciting to watch because it’s loaded with the top talent locally and from all over the tri-state area and far beyond,” Camp said.

The New York Arm Wrestling Association of is a nonprofit dedicated to the promotion of the highest quality arm wrestling championships in New York City.
