Pizza franchisee charged with bilking state of $600K in sales tax: Brown

ROSEDALE — Authorities arrested a man who owned several Papa John’s pizzerias and charged him with failing to report hundreds of thousands of dollars in sales taxes, the Queens district attorney said.

Uchenna Onuaguluchi, 46, was arrested the morning of Nov. 7 on charges of tax fraud, larceny, possession of stolen property and forgery, District Attorney Richard Brown said.

According to the charges, Onuaguluchi allegedly bilked the state out of more than $600,000 in sales tax by under-reporting sales between March 1, 2005, and May 31, 2009, at six franchises he owned in Queens and one in Brooklyn, Brown said.

He faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted on the charges, according to the DA.
