LONG ISLAND CITY — A Queens man was sentenced to 20 years in prison Tuesday for stabbing his brother’s 27-year-old male roommate to death in March 2010, the Queens district attorney said.

Adam Rodriguez, 44, pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in October, according to the DA’s office.

Prosecutors charged that Rodriguez went to his brother’s apartment on 37th Avenue in Long Island City to look for a place to stay after he had been released from Rikers Island on unrelated charges earlier in the day.

His brother’s roommate, William Edmonds, was the only one home at the time. Rodriguez stabbed Edmund once in the chest, puncturing his heart, after the roommate tried to stop him from taking his brother’s leather jacket, the DA said.

Edmonds called 911 and died in the hospital from his wounds four months later, according to authorities.
